Unfortunately, I chose the wrong book to learn about Mahayana. It's not a large book so I was able to get through it but I didn't find it to be helpful at all. Though he never did take that step, Akizuki Ryomin did make good on his promise to devote himself to "breaking the formalism that constricts Zen and exposing the fake masters."
